Los Angeles, CA - June 1, 2006 — Officer Daniel Hect, the Training Coordinator for the University of Southern California Department of Public Safety, is changing out of his Department of Public Safety Uniform and into his Air Force Military Uniform in support of Enduring Freedom.

Technical Sergeant Daniel Hect has been in the Air Force for over 25 years as a Security Forces member and is assigned to the 63rd Security Forces Squadron at Los Angeles Air Force Base as an IMA Reserve. The military activation is in support of Enduring Freedom, however, TSgt Hect's duties and location of assignment are not available for security reasons.

TSgt Hect military career has been note worthy, his career starting in 1980 through 84 as a Law Enforcement Specialist stationed at Clark Air Base Philippines and Wurthsmith AFB, MI.

TSgt Hect continued his military career in the Air Force Reserves:

  • 1985-90 Weapons Systems Flight, Norton AFB, CA
  • 1990- 92 Law Enforcement Specialist, Edwards AFB, CA
  • 1993-2002 14th Air Force Headquarters, Security Forces VAFB, CA
  • 2002 to present 61st Security Forces Sq, LA AFB, CA

TSgt Hect had several specialized assignment during his 25 years of duty in the Air Force:

  • Active Duty Desert Storm
  • Air Force Peacekeeper Challenge team member in two competitions
  • Air Force Red Star Aggressor
  • Clark Air Base Emergency Service Team Member
  • Primary Security for Presidential and Foreign Dignitaries Air Craft, Los Angeles Airport

Watch Commander USC DPS Officer Daniel Hect had many responsibilities at DPS:

  • Training Coordinator schedules and coordinates training for a 200-man department.
  • Manage Academy Cadets while in the Police Academy.
  • Manage the Field Training and Evaluation Program.
  • Manage the Emergency Medical Technician Program.
  • Train department personnel in Public Safety related topics.
  • Train department personnel in defensive tactics, arrest, and control procedures.

He also completes thorough investigations resulting in reports suitable for legal proceedings. He developed, coordinated, and resolved complex issues while implementing a "COPPS" project "KidPrint" for children's organizations.

He coordinated and led group and individual meetings with employees, managers and vendors as a Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Officer.

He interviewed suspects, defendants, victims, and witnesses in connection with suspicious or criminal activity.

"The Air Force has been very good to me over the last 25 years and made me into the person I am today. I am excited about the upcoming deployment and I am happy I can still serve my country," said Officer Daniel Hect, USC DPS.
